A few weeks ago, I posted a page of sketchbook drawings of my dog, Wilma. I was pleased with how they turned out, so I digitally colored them for fun.
Coming from a cartooning background, I don’t typically remove the line work from my art when I color it. But I’ve been interested in exploring that recently. With these drawings, I decided to “split the difference” and keep the line work visible, but just a few shades darker than the fill color, so that it would be less noticeable. I also removed the outlines altogether from Wilma’s clothing and speech bubbles, and added a drop shadow to everything, creating a collage-y, paper cutout feeling.
So many little Wilmas!
